New Mixer

I've spent a lot of time lately researching the benefits of freshly milled grain vs flour purchased in the store. I was astounded to discover that 90% of the nutritional value of flour is lost by the time we purchase flour off the store shelf. So, I decided to purchase a flour mill and new mixer so that I can make my own bread. No more empty calories for us. We are going to fully enjoy the bread we eat from now on.
I have been experimenting with different recipes and I'm still searching for the perfect one. I've found lots of great tips for using fresh milled whole wheat and can't wait to make another attempt.

My new mixer has been affectionately name Cooperlocks because of its shinny color. I've enjoyed using it so far and learning how it differs from a traditional mixer because it has a lot more power.

Birthday Fun

I have been really trying to go all organic and so this year I made my son's birthday cake. I made a half sheet staked layered vanilla cake and a 9" round layered chocolate cake. The cakes were organic box mixes and turned out pretty yummy. The icing was vanilla buttercream (my own recipe).
I had received a Cricut Cake for Christmas and this was my first real chance to play with it. I decided to just use sugar sheets (not organic) for this test run. They cut beautifully and looked great cutting out the batman symbol and his name. I can see myself using this machine for future projects and look forward to lots more decorating fun. Next try I will be trying a recipe for my own sugar sheets/fondant so I can make my creation truly all organic. :-)

Sweet Pirate

This is a design from emlibrary.com for a pirate party. I made the skirt using one she had as a template. Such a cute model. Arrghhh
